Sony Complex School Gets New Head Mr Erick Juma Owino

Management of South Nyanza Sugar Company 2025 Limited has appointed Mr Erick Juma Owino to assume leadership of Sony Complex School, effective August 1st, 2026.

Mr Owino, a seasoned administrator, teacher, author, examiner and soccer trainer, brings on board a wealth of experience spanning more than 30 years in several positions at prestigious schools.

He has played various roles as a class teacher, senior teacher, deputy principal and principal in several notable learning institutions including Makini School (Nairobi), Kilimani Junior Academy (Nairobi), Moi Educational Centre (Nairobi), Kinderville Junior Academy (Nairobi), Swaminarayan Academy (Nairobi), and Lakesite School (Kisumu).

Apart from his lengthy experience as an item writer (exam setter) with Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), Mr Owino has authored Science and English books. His Understanding Science and Integrated Science Grade 4 & 5 titles have been published by Longhorn Publishers, while his English books are published by Pearson.

“My schools have achieved the highest mean grades ever, and I have transited tens of thousands of learners to national and international schools.” He boasts.

Mr Owino is an accomplished soccer trainer who underwent professional training with Bolton Wanderers in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. He has presented many junior teams to national and international levels in Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and Zanzibar. “In every school where I have taught, my football teams have become champions”, he says, and adds, “I will ensure that Sony Complex reigns in soccer in this region.”

The new head teacher says he is proud to have a chance to lead this great institution. “I have joined a great team. The learners are receptive, and the parents are supportive. I also enjoy a lot of support and goodwill from Management,” He says. Mr Owino takes over from Mr Zachary Oduri, who has been the acting head teacher.
