Thirteen Thousand Seedlings Commemorate World Environment Day at SonySugar Company 2025 Ltd

South Nyanza Sugar Company 2025 Limited held two pompous events to mark World Environment Day (WED)—2026. WED commemorated every June 5th, is a significant day in our corporate calendar. Managing Director JP Odhiambo flagged off a massive clean-up exercise within the residential estates, and at the Sony Complex School, in a bid to sensitize the staff and learners on the benefits of a clean environment.

The MD also planted an indigenous ceremonial tree at the iconic Odola Park, named after a former managing director, Paul Odola. Mr Odola was an enthusiastic environmentalist. The park symbolizes SonySugar's rich history of commitment to environmental conservation.

Speaking at the event, the MD hailed the Company's concerted efforts over the last one year that have seen the company plant over 12,500 trees within the nucleus estate to conserve the environment. She lauded Mr. Morris Ng’iela and Mr. Patrick Were, Corporate Quality Assurance Manager and Environmental Health and Safety Manager respectively, for their efforts in tree planting and environmental conservation and safety.

SonySugar 2025 has a modern tree nursery provides wood trees, wood trees, ornamental trees, flowers and grasses for landscaping, nucleus estate forest, and for donation to the farmers and employees as a CSR initiative.

Elsewhere in Migori County, SonySugar 2025 partnered with NEMA, KEFRI and a host of other stakeholders to commemorate the Word Environment Day at the county level. The colourful event was held at the ASK grounds in Lichota. The chief Guest, Hon John Aring'o, Migori County CECM for Roads, who represented his Environment counterpart, Hon Caleb Apondi, commended SonySugar 2025 for prompt payment to the farmers, suppliers and contractors, which he noted, has significantly stimulated economic growth in the County. The partners included Rongo Univeristy, Kenya Red Cross, Lwala Community, Equity Bank, Special Interests Groups Place, ASK South West Kenya Branch, World Vision, Shreeji, Trees For Future, Kenya Airports Authority, Bansi, among others.
